What to Expect
The Manali to Padum route is India’s newest and wildest mountain frontier. Bypassing the traditional, longer route through Kargil, this remote trek-turned-highway connects Manali directly to the deeply secluded Zanskar Valley. It is an unpaved, rugged adventure built for true explorers, showcasing pristine rivers, ancient Tibetan culture, and raw, untouched Himalayan peaks.

Key Highlights:

  • The Mighty Shinku La Pass: The ultimate crown of the journey, crossing this massive 16,580-foot pass often requires driving right between towering walls of ice and snow.
  • The Mystical Phugtal Monastery Footpath: Pass the access routes to one of the world's only isolated cave monasteries, hanging precariously out of a cliffside canyon.
  • The Gonbo Rangjon Mountain: Marvel at the "Holy Mountain" of Zanskar—a massive, freestanding, sharp rock monolith that rises abruptly out of the valley floor, a sacred sight for locals.
  • Pristine Turquoise Rivers: Trace the Tsarap and Zanskar rivers, witnessing the dramatic shift where jagged rock formations meet glacial, bright-blue water channels.
